From incoming to outgoing: Dr. Chris Simpson bids farewell to the CMAPublished Tue Sep 1st 2015
Dr. Simpson’s term as CMA president came to an end last week in Halifax, as he passed the torch to the incoming president, Dr. Cindy Forbes. His signature issue – seniors’ care, and the need for a national seniors’ strategy, came through loud and clear in his valedictory speech. He also borrowed liberally from KGH’s experience with “Code Gridlock” for a Rick Mercer-like “rant”, which can be viewed here.
During Dr. Simpson’s tenure as President he travelled nationally and internationally representing the CMA. The World Medical Association meeting in Durban and the CMA and BMA co-sponsored conference in the UK show the reach of the CMA, and the international relevance of their mission. Nationally, each province and territory was visited numerous times. On a political level Dr. Simpson attended the Supreme Court of Canada and met cabinet ministers, premiers and MPs to discuss the political impact on healthcare in Canada. Dr. Simpson made visits to Long Term Care Facilities, Hospitals, and residents of Canadian communities ensuring that each demographic had a voice.
Dr. Simpson’s Valedictory address can be seen here, summarizing his experience as CMA President.
