Congratulations are extended to Dr. Stephen Vanner upon his receipt of the Queen's 2016 Prize for Research Excellence.
The Queen’s University Prizes for Excellence in Research are the highest form of research excellence recognition from Queen’s for research conducted at the University. The Prizes are awarded to outstanding Queen’s researchers and celebrate major research contributions either completed or recognized in recent years. The Prizes are awarded for research undertaken while the recipient was at Queen’s.
Dr. Vanner's nomination was multifocal. Dr. Vanner has seen great success in his innovative research program devoted to the study of peripheral nociceptive signalling mechanisms underlying pain in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and its translational application which has identified novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers. In addition to Dr. Vanner's outstanding research success, he is a leader in building and operating a major research facility at Queen's. He has achieved excellence as a scientific mentor, and is a recognzied and respected leader in academic gastroenterology.
