The Department of Medicine at Queen’s University has been growing in numbers over the year’s. With that in mind we thought it would be beneficial to highlight some of our new recruits to the Department. Some of the faculty you may already have heard of (and be referring to) while others are new to the Department.
The Department will be welcoming new faculty members in the coming months and we will communicate their arrival in coming E-News bulletins.
Dr. Samir Hazra, Division of Cardiology
Dr. Hazra joined the Department of Medicine Division of Cardiology with cross appointment to the Department of Radiology at the rank of Assistant Professor in July 2018. He has assumed the role of associate program director of the adult cardiology training program at Queen’s University/Kingston Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Stephen Montague, Division of General Internal Medicine
Dr. Montague is a Clinician-Educator, and Assistant Professor within the Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine. He joined the Division of General Internal Medicine at Queen's University in 2018. Dr. Montague's inpatient clinical practice primarily involves clinical teaching units and general internal medicine consults. Dr. Leonie Herx, Division of Palliative Medicine, Chair
The Department of Medicine is pleased to welcome, Dr. Leonie Herx who has recently joined the Division of Palliative Medicine as Divisional Chair. Leonie is also the Connell Chair, and effective Aug 2018 has assumed the role of Clinical Director of Palliative Care at Providence Care. Leonie’s areas of interest are medical education, professional development, and advocacy for building palliative care capacity across the health care system. Dr. Danielle Kain, Division of Palliative Medicine
Dr. Danielle Kain joined the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University as an Assistant Professor and physician in the Division of Palliative Medicine in August of 2018. She completed her medical school at the University of Toronto, followed by Family Medicine and Palliative Medicine residency training at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Danielle spent two years at Dalhousie with the Division of Palliative Medicine before returning to Toronto and working at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in 2015, practicing inpatient and outpatient palliative care. In addition, she worked at the Toronto Western Hospital and Kensington Hospice, enhancing her knowledge and skills in the area of non-malignant life-limiting illnesses and building an outpatient palliative care service within the divisions of Respirology and Neurology at Toronto Western Hospital.
Danielle has a Master’s Degree in Medical Anthropology, completing a thesis on Immigrant Experiences of Palliative Care, which continues to inform her work today. Her academic interests also lie in medical education, and helping to develop outpatient clinics for those with non-malignant illnesses who might benefit from a palliative approach to care, in addition to optimal disease-directed therapies.

Dr. Sara Awad, Divison of Endocrinology
Dr. Awad joined the Faculty of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in August 2017. She is passionate about Medical Education and will be pursuing a Master’s of Health Professions Education (MHPE). Her clinical interests are thyroid cancer, pituitary diseases and obstetric medicine particularly endocrine disorders in pregnancy. For more information on Dr. Awad click here.

Dr. Moogeh Baharnoori, Division of Neurology
Dr. Baharnoori is an Assistant Professor in Division of Neurology and a specialist in multiple sclerosis and related disorders. Her research interests are MS pharmacotherapy and risk mitigation strategies, biomarkers of treatment response, neurodegeneration and mechanisms of repair in MS and Neuromyelitis Optica. Dr. Alison Flanagan
Dr. Alison Flanagan is a Palliative Care physician, and an Assistant Professor with the Department of Internal Medicine at Queen's University. Dr. Flanagan is part of the community Palliative Care team, providing patient care at home and on the Palliative Care Unit at Providence Care Hospital.

Dr. Thomas Herzinger

Dr. Zardasht Jaff
Dr. Jaff joined the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at Queen's in 2018 as a staff cardiologist and assistant professor. He is also the co-director for the echocardiology fellowship program at Queen's University as well as part of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.His interests include General Cardiology/CCU, transesophageal echocardiogram and stress echocardiogram. Dr. Garima Shukla
Dr. Garima Shukla is currently appointed as Professor of Neurology (Epilepsy & Sleep Medicine) at the department of Medicine, Queen’s University. Dr. Samuel Silver
Samuel Silver is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology at Queen’s University. Dr. Silver strongly believes that standardizing and systematically improving kidney disease care can result in better patient outcomes. Dr. Evan Wilson
Dr. Evan Wilson is an Assistant Professor of Medicine within the Division of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Wilson’s clinical activities include inpatient consultation service and ambulatory clinics in general infectious diseases, HIV and tuberculosis.
