Dr. Rasika Wijeratne joined the Department of Medicine in 2012 as a hospitalist after completing her residency training at the Queen’s University Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Wijeratne receives Alternate Level of Care patients from Internal Medicine, Neurology and Cardiology inpatient services and provides continued care until they are discharged. With her enthusiastic multidisciplinary team at the Kingston General Hospital she formulates care plans that reflect patient’s Goals of Care, and optimizes their transition from acute care hospital to appropriate discharge destination.
Her clinical interests are around Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD), care of elderly and end of life. Her academic area of interest is Education of International Medical Graduates (IMG).
Dr.Wijeratne completed her undergraduate medical studies at the Fudan University in Shanghai-China. She received post graduate training in Pediatric Cardiology at the Pediatric Hospital affiliated with Fudan University. She also completed post graduate internship in General Surgery and Pediatrics at the Chilaw Base Hospital in Sri Lanka. She worked as the Medical Officer in Charge at the Delvita Rural Hospital in Sri Lanka. She is fluent in Mandarin.
