Dr. Danielle Kain joined the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University as an Assistant Professor and physician in the Division of Palliative Medicine in August of 2018. She completed her medical school at the University of Toronto, followed by Family Medicine and Palliative Medicine residency training at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Danielle spent two years at Dalhousie with the Division of Palliative Medicine before returning to Toronto and working at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in 2015, practicing inpatient and outpatient palliative care. In addition, she worked at the Toronto Western Hospital and Kensington Hospice, enhancing her knowledge and skills in the area of non-malignant life-limiting illnesses and building an outpatient palliative care service within the divisions of Respirology and Neurology at Toronto Western Hospital.

Danielle has a Master’s Degree in Medical Anthropology, completing a thesis on Immigrant Experiences of Palliative Care, which continues to inform her work today.  Her academic interests also lie in medical education, and helping to develop outpatient clinics for those with non-malignant illnesses who might benefit from a palliative approach to care, in addition to optimal disease-directed therapies
