The John Alexander Stewart (JAS) Fellowship Award aims to support a research-intensive fellowship for trainees and foster the growth of academic faculty within the Queen’s University Department of Medicine. Preference is given to trainees who are being recruited to return to Queen’s University Department of Medicine for a faculty position, although others may apply. To be eligible for the JAS, candidates must be sponsored by a nominating faculty member who is a full time member of the Department of Medicine. Nominations by colleagues external to the DOM are not accepted.
Eligibility Criteria for the John Alexander Stewart Fellowship:
- The Fellowship is open to individuals of high academic distinction in Canada or abroad who are in the early stages of their careers (senior residents, fellows, postdoctoral fellows).
- Applicants must hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree. The award is available to trainees committed to a career in academic medicine within any of the Divisions in the Department of Medicine.
- MD applicants pursuing fellowship training are eligible to apply, even if their fellowship is external to Queen’s University, provided the training is research-intensive (preference giving to those being recruited back to the Department of Medicine (DOM) to join the faculty).
- If in doubt about the eligibility of a candidate, please consult with the Department Head and/or Director of TIME.
This award was established in 1975 with funding from the John Alexander Stewart Estate. Significant financial support from the late Dr. J.O. Parker also contributes to the fellowship fund.
