As part of TIME’s commitment to advancing translational research and strengthening Canada’s life sciences ecosystem, the institute is expanding opportunities for collaboration with industry partners through dedicated innovation and laboratory space embedded directly within the research environment at Queen’s University. This initiative is supported through regional innovation and commercialization efforts, including the FedDev Ontario Kingston Health Sciences Project and Kingston Helix, which aim to accelerate health technology development, attract investment, and foster collaboration between academia, healthcare, and industry. By integrating companies within TIME’s research infrastructure, tenants gain direct access to scientific expertise, advanced technologies, and a collaborative environment designed to support innovation and commercialization.
TIME currently offers premium leasable wet laboratory space within its newly developed research facility. The available industry suite measures 15.1 ft × 16.4 ft (247.64 sq ft) and is available at a rate of $70/sq ft per month. This pricing reflects the unique value of operating within a state-of-the-art biomedical research institute, located in the heart of Queen’s University campus and within close proximity to downtown Kingston. The space includes access to a brand new level 2 biohazardous wet lab environment, enabling companies to rapidly establish research and development activities within a fully supported scientific ecosystem.
Industry tenants benefit from a comprehensive support model managed by TIME and Queen’s University, allowing companies to focus on research and innovation rather than administrative infrastructure. Included services encompass health and safety compliance and training, custodial and security services, mail handling, and institutional IT support. In addition, tenants have access to high-speed computing and secure data storage through Canada Advanced Computing (CAC), supporting data-intensive and computationally demanding research activities.
A major advantage of the TIME industry program is direct access to a multidisciplinary team of highly specialized staff scientists and more than $25 million in advanced scientific infrastructure. Industry tenants receive academic pricing for TIME Core services, representing an approximate 40% savings compared to standard external rates, including eligibility for bundled SuperUser subscription packages. Available technologies and expertise span flow cytometry and cell sorting, advanced microscopy and super-resolution imaging, histology and TEM/SEM analysis, genomics and transcriptomics, spatialomics, bioinformatics and biostatistics, extracellular vesicle research, and small-animal imaging modalities including CT, PET, SPECT, and optical imaging. Together, these resources create a uniquely collaborative environment where industry partners can accelerate technology development, validation, and translational impact.
