Health and well being is essential in life and foundational to learning and success in academic training programs. Although highs and lows are expected at times, as a program we want to promote a culture of well-being in our residents and facilitate it in how our program operates. This is one of our highest priorities in QIM.
Wellness Resident Innovation Team
Wellness and balancing life throughout residency is a priority for our program and of course of our learners, which is what led to the creation of the Resident Wellness Innovation Team in 2017. This resident led and program sponsored group organizes events throughout the year. These events range from workshops, to panel talks from faculty about their experiences as a physician and reflections on residency, to social events, all with the goal of supporting individuals to bring the program together. More information about the Wellnes RIT can be found on the RIT webpage.
Resident Wellness Handbook
The program's Wellness Resident Innovation Team has created a Resident Wellness Handbook that is updated annually for incoming residents.
PGME Learner Wellness
The PGME office recognizes that as much as residency is exciting, it is also challenging, and sometimes you need extra support. The PGME office has a team focused on Learner Wellness, led by Dr. Melissa Andrew. They provide counselling services free of charge to all residents who might need it, and help facilitate connections to other resources if needed or desired. These services are provided at arm's length from the School of Medicine to maintain anonymity & confidentiality. They also help residents navigate options around leaves of absence and accommodations.
You can find more information about these services, please visit the PGME website.
