On October 26, 2023, the Queen’s University Medical Grand Rounds had the pleasure of listening to a thought-provoking lecture by Dr. Gordon Boyd. Entitled ‘“Impossible to see, the future is”: Neuroprognostication after cardiac arrest’, Dr. Boyd’s lecture detailed current prognostic tools available for predicting neurological outcomes of patients following resuscitation efforts.

On October 5th, 2023, the Department of Medicine welcomed health and social services research expert Dr. Pat Armstrong to share her insights on the process of developing the Health Standards Organization (HSO) standards for Canadian Long-Term Care (LTC),1 as well as her research that provided the foundation for these standards, entitled “Reimagining Long-term Residential Care: An International Study of Promising Practices”.2

On Thursday September 21st, 2023, Dr. Melissa Kelley delivered the Medical Grand Rounds (MGR) lecture. She spoke about the use of non-selective beta-blockers (NSBB) in clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) to improve clinical management and patient prognosis. She then met with members of the Translational Medicine Graduate Program (TMED) for an extended discussion.
