Doug is the TIME Core Manage and an Assistant Professor (Adjunct, DBMS). In this role, he has helped facilitate the construction of the new TIME Core laboratories and the procurement and operationalization of over $12M of state-of-the-art scientific platforms. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, next generation sequencing platforms (ONT GridION and PromethION), spectral flow cytometers and cell sorters (Sony ID7000 and MA900), electron microscope (Delong LVEM25), super-resolution microscopes (Leica Stellaris STED), and spatial proteomics (Leica Cell DIVE).

Originally from Victoria, B.C., Doug completed his PhD in the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Alberta in 2017. He moved to Queen’s in 2020 to finish a Postdoctoral Fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Lynne Postovit followed by a Research Associate position with Dr. Mark Ormiston. As an Assistant Professor in DBMS, he is the course coordinator and instructor of BCHM218: Molecular Biology and BCHM370: Genetics and Genomics. Doug joined the QCPU/TIME Core team in June of 2025.

During his nearly 20-year career in research, Doug has had the opportunity to study several different research topics, including but not limited to viral inhibition of apoptosis, regulation membrane trafficking, pulmonary hypertension, and cancer cell plasticity and metastasis. This experience came with expertise in a wide range of experimental techniques spanning microscopy, genetics and genomics, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, RNA interference, in vivo tumorigenesis and metastasis methods, and a wide variety of cancer cell biology methods that he applies to best address the research questions of core facility users.
