Dr. Susan Moffatt graduated from Queen’s Medical School in 1978 and completed her training in Internal Medicine and Respirology at Queen's. During her two years at the University of Washington in Critical Care and Cardio-pulmonary Physiology, she was introduced to the emerging discipline of medical education. Since returning to Queen’s in 1986, she has enjoyed her simultaneous roles as an intensivist, respirologist, and clinician educator.
As an intensivist, Dr. Moffatt developed the postgraduate Critical Care Medicine (CCM) Program at Queen’s and served as Chair of the Royal College Specialty Committee for CCM during the evolution of the national training standards. She practiced CCM for 26 years, 12 of which she spent as the ICU Director. Within the medical school, she served as the Course Chair of the Respirology unit for 19 years, held the Bracken Chair in Clinical Skills, and developed innovative courses for the Transition to Clerkship and Transition to Residency. She has received over 20 education awards.
From December 2021 to June 2024, she served as the Interim Division Chair, during which time the Division was delighted to welcome several dynamic new colleagues who are expanding its academic and clinical missions.
In 2023, she was honored to receive the Stephen Archer Leadership Award from the Department of Medicine, and in October 2024, she was awarded a Distinguished Service Award for her contributions to Queen’s. In December 2024, Dr. Moffatt will retire with grateful memories of her rewarding career in medicine at Queen’s.
