Dr. Yuka Asai is Chair of the Division of Dermatology at Queen’s University. A prairie native, she obtained her Bachelor of Science at the University of Alberta and her MD at the University of Saskatchewan. She completed her dermatology training at McGill University, from which she received an MSc in Epidemiology and also completed her PhD in 2018.
Her research interests include allergy, genetics and epidemiology. She is interested in the interaction of the skin with other systems and how it may act as a gatekeeper, indicator, or therapeutic tool for systemic disease. She spearheaded research into the association between the eczema gene, filaggrin, and its association with peanut allergy. She is interested in evidence-based clinical dermatology guidelines.
As an educator, Dr. Asai provides training to residents and students and is known for her engaging clinical and didactic teaching.
Dr. Asai provides consultation service to the Kingston General Hospital and outpatient service at the Hotel Dieu Hospital.
