QCPU Room 1610A

Laboratory Scientists: Dr. Patricia Lima (maternity leave); Curtis Noordhof

QCPU's Sony SH800 is a micro fluidic chip-based designed cell sorter which is equipped with 4 lasers (405 nm, 488nm, 561nm and 638nm) that are combined into a single collinear beam. This Sony sorter can detect up to 6 colors plus two scatter parameters. Additionally, the machine is equipped with a Class-II Biosafety cabinet that maintains a sterile environment for the possibility to run BSL-2 sorts

Available Sorting Chip sizes 70µm, 100µm, 130µm.

70µm

  • Can sort 4 × 10^7 total cells per hour, collection volume: ~10^6 cells in 1mL
  • Requires higher pressure (60 psi), not ideal for larger or fragile cells

100µm-130µm

  • Can sort 2 × 10^7 cells/hour, collection volume is ~2.5 × 10^5 cells in 1 mL
  • Best for large or delicate cells because it uses lower pressure (20psi)
  • Examples include stem cells, fibroblasts, neurons, and larger cancer cells
