Dr. Durjoy Lahiri received his medical degree from Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College & Hospital, Kolkata, India. Thereafter he completed his residency in internal medicine and neurology, both from the prestigious Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGME&R) in Kolkata, India. He arrived in Canada in 2021 to pursue his fundamental interest in Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology and completed a clinical fellowship, as a Bresver Family Fellow, at Baycrest Academy for Research and Education and Rotman Research Institute affiliated with the University of Toronto. He has been awarded the Specialty Certificate in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians, UK in 2022.
His areas of clinical expertise include a wide spectrum of primary cognitive and behavioral disorders, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Fronto-Temporal Dementia, Vascular Dementia, Dementia with Lewy Bodies, Cortico-Basal Syndrome. He is equally trained in dealing with cognitive dysfunctions associated with other neurological disorders, for instance, atypical parkinsonism and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In addition, he has experience in delivering virtual care for behavioral dysfunctions in Dementia, which he gained by working in the Virtual Behavioral Medicine (VBM) program at Baycrest. Clinical teaching has always been his passion and he has been involved in extensive teaching activities since his medicine and neurology residency days.
Dr. Lahiri’s current research interests are focused on fluid biomarkers and emerging therapies in Alzheimer’s Disease; he has rigorous training experience in clinical trials in Alzheimer’s Disease. He also has a deep interest in the role neuromodulation techniques, such as Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (t DCS), as a symptomatic treatment in cognitive disorders. He has significant research experience working with language and communication disorders, rapidly progressive dementias and visual cognitive dysfunctions. Dr. Lahiri has several scientific publications including book chapters to his credit.
Dr. Lahiri has received various prestigious awards throughout his career in academic neurology, some of which are as follows: International Scholarship awarded by the American Academy of Neurology; Sandra Black Award for Clinical Dementia Research; Jim Sharpe Award for best fellow paper in Neurology at the University of Toronto; Young Investigator Award from the Academy of Aphasia as well as multiple travel scholarships awarded by different organizations.
