Victor Neira Vidal
MD, DRCPSC, FACC, FSIAC
Dr. Victor Neira Vidal was born and raised in Osorno, Chile. He graduated from the Universidad de La Frontera Medical School, Chile in 2008. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Universidad de La Frontera in 2012 and Cardiology fellowship training at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in 2014. Dr. Neira Vidal then completed Electrophysiology training at Universidad de La Frontera in 2017. He moved to Canada in 2018 to pursue research and clinical fellowship training within the field of cardiac electrophysiology, at Queen's University. Dr. Neira Vidal successfully completed his fellowship in Adult Cardiac Electrophysiology in 2020, and he became the first graduate to accomplish the goal of securing the Diplomate of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (DRCPSC), at Queen's University. He subsequently worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Universidad de La Frontera and served as the Head of the Electrophysiology Service and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Dr. Hernan Henriquez Aravena's Hospital in Temuco, Chile, between 2020 – 2022.
Dr. Neira was appointed to the Division of Cardiology at Queen’s University in 2022. He works as a staff cardiologist and electrophysiologist at Kingston Health Science Centre (KHSC) and was promoted as Head of Arrhythmia Service at KHSC in 2023.
Dr. Neira’s clinical interests are in catheter ablation strategies for various complex cardiac arrhythmias, such as ventricular arrhythmias, atrial arrhythmias, accessory pathways and inherited heart rhythm disorders. His expertise also involves optimization of arrhythmia devices therapies for conduction disorders.
Dr. Neira’s research interest is focused on innovation of novel arrhythmia mapping strategies and therapeutic interventions in complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. His innovative research in the Cardiac Arrhythmia Signal Analysis Lab with Dr. Damian Redfearn, participating in the TARLESS project, have generated high impact publications in cardiovascular medicine. Details on his publications can be found on his Google Scholar Profile.
Dr. Neira is heavily involved in the postgraduate and undergraduate medical education through teaching, mentorship, and research.
Dr. Neira is a member of several international scientific societies in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
