Dr. Wael Abuzeid attended Queen’s University as an undergraduate Biomedical Computing student in 2001. He completed his Doctorate in Medicine in 2008 and Internal Medicine residency in 2011, both at the University of Ottawa. This was followed by fellowship training in Cardiology at the University of Toronto. He completed a concurrent clinical fellowship in Interventional Cardiology and a Masters of Science (MSc) in Patient Safety and Quality Improvement in 2016 from the University of Toronto.
His clinical interests include Interventional Cardiology with special interest in Structural Heart Interventions and Complex Coronary Interventions. He cofounded the Transcatheter Mitral Valve Interventions Program as well as co-lead the PFO Closure Program at Queen’s. He joined the TAVI team in 2023.
His research interest is focused on clinical outcomes, quality of life and clinical trials. Dr. Abuzeid has published over 20 peer reviewed manuscripts and was the recipient of the Young Investigator Award at the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology meeting in 2014. Dr. Abuzeid is currently the Division of Cardiology Research Lead.
Dr. Abuzeid joined the Department of Medicine at the rank of Assistant Professor in September 2017 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2023. He is actively involved in research and clinical teaching of medical students, residents and fellows at Queen’s University.
