Amer Johri
MD, MSc, FRCPC, FASE
Dr. Amer Johri is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University. He joined the Division of Cardiology in 2010 after completing his advanced (Level III) Echocardiography Fellowship at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Johri has served on the boards of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and the Canadian Society of Echocardiography (CSE). He is the immediate past chair of the ASE Circulation and Vascular Ultrasound (CAVUS) Council and is currently the treasurer and executive board member of the CSE. He is also the founding editor and publisher of POCUS Journal.
Dr. Johri’s research focuses on the innovation of ultrasound-based techniques to enhance cardiovascular (CV) risk stratification. Current thematic areas include cardiopulmonary point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), CV screening of special populations such as women and indigenous peoples, analysis of vulnerable atherosclerotic carotid plaque through 3D imaging, composition, and novel ultrasound contrast applications. He is the founder and director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Network at Queen's (CINQ). The CINQ lab is currently pursuing collaborations in the areas of artificial intelligence for vascular analysis and has formal research partnerships with several major industrial organizations and global networks. Dr. Johri holds multiple CIHR grants as principal investigator and is a Heart and Stroke Foundation clinician-scientist. He has over 150 peer-reviewed publications. He was chair of the ASE guideline for the assessment of carotid arterial plaque by ultrasound and also chaired the recent ASE POCUS for COVID-19 assessment statement. Dr. Johri is passionate about education and curates the podcast for the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (JASE) and serves as an editorial board member.
