Dr. Iqbal is an Assistant Professor with the Division of Palliative Medicine. He is an attending physician for the KHSC inpatient consult team and at the Palliative Care Unit at Providence Care Hospital. In addition, Dr. Iqbal is a consultant physician at the CCSEO for ambulatory oncology patients. He previously completed his medical training at the University of Alberta, Family Medicine Residency at the University of Toronto and Palliative Medicine training at Queen’s University. Prior to his medical training, he completed his PhD in Physiology at the University of Toronto. He has particular interests in Clinical Program Development and Palliative Medicine Research. At the CCSEO, Dr. Iqbal led the development of the Palliative Oncology Procedure clinic for patients requiring paracentesis and advanced pain management procedures, such as intravenous lidocaine. Currently, through collaboration with Cardiology he is working on the development of a Palliative Heart Failure clinic, to offer ambulatory care for this underserved patient population. His research interests include primary palliative care quality improvement, access to virtual care for home-bound palliative patients, palliative care for heart failure patients, and advanced pain management. He is currently involved in multiple clinical trials at the KHSC and PCH.
