Dr. Matthew Hanson is a physician and specialist in Cardiac Electrophysiology with a strong academic and clinical background in cardiovascular medicine. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Guelph, followed by a Master’s in Human Physiology at the University of Manitoba. He earned his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario (Windsor Campus) and went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine (2017–2020) and fellowship in Cardiology (2020–2023) at Queen’s University. He recently completed subspecialty training in Cardiac Electrophysiology (2023–2025), also at Queen’s.
Dr. Hanson developed a deep interest in electrophysiology during his cardiology training, drawn to its rapidly evolving technology, its strong patient-centered focus, and the potential for impactful, life-saving therapies. His clinical interests include the management of complex arrhythmias, non-fluoroscopic ablation techniques, and conduction system pacing.
An active clinician-researcher, Dr. Hanson leads several ongoing research initiatives aimed at optimizing procedural techniques and improving ablation outcomes. His work focused on arrhythmia management and complex ablation strategies and has been published in leading cardiology journals and presented at international conferences.
Dr. Hanson has been recognized with multiple awards for his academic and teaching excellence, including the 2024–2025 SEAMO Clinical Fellowship Award, the 2023 Dr. Michael Nault Cardiology Teaching Award from Queen’s University, and the 2014 Manitoba Medical Services Foundation Award during his MSc studies.
