Dr. Lima oversees the operation of research platforms for imaging, flow cytometry and sorting, in vitro experimentation, and, more recently, spatial proteomics. In her capacity as a TIME scientist, she collaborates with and provides scientific assistance to numerous research groups, including support with experimental design, data acquisition, student mentorship, and both grant and manuscript preparation. Dr. Lima’s expertise in microscopy and cytometry is widely acknowledged, as evidenced by her role as vice-president of the Canadian Microscopy and Cytometry Association (CCMA), a national organization dedicated to providing guidance, fostering community, and advancing biotechnology knowledge within core facilities across Canada.

Dr. Lima is an early-career investigator and an emerging scientist specializing in cardio-immunology, with a particular focus on elucidating the role of inflammation in right ventricular failure (RVF) associated with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). This research is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) as a co-Principal Investigator. Dr. Lima has supervised two master’s students and an undergraduate student and is currently supervising two master’s students and one Ph.D. student. Additionally, Dr. Lima leads the Women in Science at Queen’s (WiSQ), a prominent employee resource group (ERG) at Queen’s, which plays an influential role within the scientific community.

Apart from her scientific commitments, Dr. Lima dedicates her efforts to community service. She serves as a volunteer firefighter at the Athens Fire Department, where she holds a position on the executive team, serves as a fire prevention officer, and oversees skill development initiatives. Additionally, she is an ambassador for Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC) fundraising campaigns, such as “The Boot Drive.” In 2023, Dr. Lima was honored with the “Dr. David Green Award" in recognition of her contributions to MDC fundraising efforts and her intellectual input during the review of research grants. She enjoys being both a mom and a granny, staying actively engaged in all the kids' activities!
