Philip Laird
MD, PhD, CCFP (EM), FRCPC
Dr. Philip Laird completed medical school and family medicine residency at the University of Calgary. He practiced for several years as medical officer with the Canadian Forces doing a mix of primary care, occupational and emergency medicine. He also completed additional training in Aerospace and Diving Medicine including a postgraduate diploma in aeromedical retrieval and transport from the University of Otago in New Zealand.
Dr. Laird holds a BSc in Engineering Physics from Queen’s as well as MSc and PhD degrees in physics from Université Laval. His PhD research involved developing a magnetically shaped liquid mirror for adaptive optics. In 2015 he returned to Queen’s to complete training in internal medicine and critical care. Dr. Laird remains on active duty with the Canadian Forces as part of 1 Canadian Field Hospital as an internist/intensivist and critical care aeromedical evacuation specialist. His research interests include biological signal analysis and machine learning for prediction of physiological decompensation in the critically ill as well as aerospace and diving medicine.
