Dr. Don Thiwanka Wijeratne is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health at Queen's University. He holds an MD from the University of Colombo Sri Lanka, an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Toronto, Canada; is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and is a certified lecturer in university education (SEDA), UK. As a clinician educator, he leads clinical epidemiology teaching for postgraduate internal medicine and is an examiner for the Royal College of Canada. He has supervised more than fifty resident-led education projects and has authored more than eighty peer-reviewed publications to date. His publication on bedside team rounding was named a Canadian Medical Education Journal best article of the decade. He is also the faculty lead for research for the resident training committees for the core and fellowship training programs at Queen’s University. Dr. Wijeratne’s teaching has received numerous recognitions by Queen’s University, and he was awarded the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario (PARO) Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award. He is a faculty lead for the Queen's Global Oncology Program masterclass series, training clinicians in critical appraisal across more than sixteen countries. His research applies population-based administrative databases and clinical epidemiology methods to cancer survivorship and to building research capacity and education globally funded by the Royal College of Canada.
