Dr. Maria Luz Garagiola joined the Department of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiology in September 2025. Her clinical focus includes echocardiography, congenital heart disease, cardiovascular complications in pregnancy, and complex heart conditions.
Originally from Argentina, she earned her medical degree at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, where she won first place in the National Academic Olympiad of Medical Students. This recognition gave her the opportunity to complete a clinical rotation at Yale School of Medicine. After her cardiology residency, Dr. Garagiola moved to Canada for subspecialty training. She completed a two-year fellowship in Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Cardio-Obstetrics at the University of Toronto, where she received the Annual Fellowship Award for Community Service. She then pursued a one-year fellowship in Adult Echocardiography at Western University.
