Dr. Oksana Motalo joined the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University in 2025 as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology, with a cross-appointment in the Department of Oncology. A Northern Ontario native, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and undergraduate medical education at Laurentian University in Sudbury. Dr. Motalo completed her Internal Medicine residency at McMaster University and her Hematology residency at Queen's University, followed by a Transplant and Cellular Therapies Fellowship at the University of Ottawa. She joins Queen's from BC Cancer – Kelowna, where she helped to launch the malignant hematology program.
Dr. Motalo practices in the area of complex malignant hematology, which includes bone marrow failure, stem cell transplantation, chimeric antigen receptor therapy (CAR-T), and rare hematologic diseases such as histiocytoses and mast cell disorders. She is a member of the Canadian Leukemia Study Group Inherited Bone Marrow Failure Working Group and the Canadian Castleman Disease National Interest Group. Her academic interests include health outcomes research and resident education.
