Dr. Marko Skrtic was born in Karlovac, Croatia and spent his childhood years in Hamilton, Ontario. After undergraduate studies in Biology at McMaster University, he pursued the MD PhD program at the University of Toronto where he completed his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Aaron Schimmer studying mitochondrial biology in acute myeloid leukaemia. Afterwards, he completed internal medicine training at the University of Toronto, followed by nephrology residency at McMaster University.
He has completed clinical fellowships in Onco-Nephrology, General Nephrology, and Home Dialysis at the University Health Network/University of Toronto. Additionally, he completed a three-year research fellowship with Dr. Lisa Robinson studying macrophage cell biology at the Hospital for Sick Children as a part of KRESCENT post-doctoral fellowship program.
His clinical interests include onco-nephrology, peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis. His research focus is on inflammatory modulation in kidney disease and dialysis.
