The Queen’s CardioPulmonary Unit (QCPU) opened its clinic doors in 2019 as an official KHSC Satellite and typically the clinic performs 3,500 echocardiograms a year. QCPU has a unique partnership with KHSC which allows 25% of the imaging capacity for use in clinical research studies. This partnership provides KHSC with a state-of-the-art imaging facility, and our researchers with access to the services of expert sonographers and ongoing maintenance of the equipment.
The clinic is equipped with a reception area, 3 patient rooms, 1 phlebotomy suite, 1 storage room, 1 bathroom, 2 echocardiograpy labs and 1pulmonary function testing laboratory.
The clinic has hosted several physician clinics since opening:
- From 2020-2023 we hosted Drs. John Smythe and Joshua Pensular paediatric congenital heart clinic.
- Since 2022, we have hosted Dr. Michael Deryncks’ paediatric respirology clinic for asthma screening, as well as a resident education respirology clinic.
- In 2027 we will begin to host Drs. Stephen Archer and Josh Durbin’s pulmonary hypertension clinic.
