Training the next generation of translational researchers.

A very key component of TIME is its Translational Medicine (TMED) graduate program. This program is driven by our patients and their diseases. Guided by this primary focus, translational research spans across the spectrum from molecular and cell biology to preclinical models to patient studies and back again.

The program offers both Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Translational Medicine. In these programs, students will develop research skills with clinical experiences through patient interactions, clinical observerships and by attending medical grand rounds.

What career options are available after graduation?

Our programs aim to train the next generation of researchers to be effective translators of biomedical discovery. The graduates of the programs will operate at the intersection of clinical and related sciences and will have the expertise to generate and lead discovery through an integrated process, increasing the efficiency of translating science knowledge into health improvement. Our graduates have worked in health care and biomedical research, public health, and academia or continued their education through medical schools, and other graduate programs.

What does TIME do for TMED?

TIME annually provides two awards to recognize and support TMED students:

External Grant Application Award
This award (certificate and cash prize) was created as an incentive to encourage TMED students to apply for an external awards, this could include Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) or Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) or cause-specific scholarships for graduate students such as Heart and Stroke, Asthma Canada etc. These awards are distributed twice a year, once during the TIME to Shine Holiday party and at the TIME Symposium.

Research Excellence Award
These awards (trophy, cash prize and presentation at the TIME Symposium) recognize graduate students in the Translational Medicine Graduate Program who have conducted high-quality research in their respective disciplines. To be eligible for this award TMED students must be nominated by a faculty member for having achieved a notable contribution to science. This awards are peer-reviewed by an Awards committee and distributed at the TIME Symposium.

TIME also hosts regular TMED Roundtables, which provide students with an informal space to practise presentation and feedback skills, and regularly highlights TMED achievements through social media, podcasts and annual reports.
